How To Prevent Mold Growth and Eliminating the Odors It Comes With

  rainbowair-activator-ozone-generators-family-300
Many people as of late are dealing with mold and mildew after affects  accociated with the recent flooding that has occured in the Northeast due to Hurricane Irene.

So, what’s a good way to prevent the mold in the first place?

Obviously, that has to do with water.  Without water, mold growth cannot start, multiply, or spead from one place to another.  The easiest and best way to control mold growth from gaining a foothold is to control dampness.  Keeping your home clean and dry is the first step.  Did you know that if you have water standing for even 24 hours common molds can begin to grow?  All in all, keeping humidity levels below 60% and venting moisture from showers are a few ways you can prevent the conditions that lead to mold growth.

Other tips:

  • Don’t carpet bathrooms and basements.  These areas are highly moist, which can harvest lots of hidden molds underneath
  • Clean up wet areas as soon as you can-within 24 hrs
  • Use a dehumidifier to get rid of excess humidity-this is great for basements

The recommended humidity level for controlling mold growth and dust mites is 50%-Dust mites are microscopic animals related to spiders, ticks and other mites. Dust mites eat mold and dead human or animal skin scales (flakes) and leave allergenic proteins. Dust mites reduce allergen production at these lower humidity levels.

If you have experienced water damage, the best way to ensure it’s cleaned up is to treat the area with ozone after it dries.   Click here for more information about mold/mild odors and how to eliminate them naturally and effectively.
