One look at the May 2014 headlines and photos coming out of the eastern half of the United States and its easy to see that flooding and flood damage are on track to make this one spring to remember. There were mudslides all over the Empire State, not to mention water logged basements and a massive amount of water related transportation delays.

Some people were even comparing the flood damage to that which occurred during Superstorm Sandy. If that does prove to be the case, insurance companies are bound to be chewing their fingernails down to the quik. That’s because Superstorm Sandy alone resulted in more than $7 million dollars in flood damage related insurance payouts. So if the May 2014 storms were truly worse than Sandy, there is no telling how much money will need to be paid out to repair the flood damage.

That said, eastern seaboard residents faced with post-storm cleanup may want to consider doing two things in the days ahead, calling a public insurance adjuster and ordering an ozone generator. The public insurance adjuster can help wade through what’s sure to be an onerous claim process. As for the ozone generator, it will help make properties livable again.

Ozone generators may be used once the flood waters have subsided and cleanup has begun. They are specifically designed to remove odors associated with mold, mildew, bacteria, sewage and all of the other nastiness that washes into properties during flooding situations. However, they come in a variety of sizes. So it’s vital to choose one that is compatible with the size of the flood damaged area.

For the rest of the cleanup tasks, those living in the eastern half of the U.S. will need to rely on themselves, friends, family, neighbors, businesses and charity organizations to get the job done. The Flood Safety website has tips on flood cleanup that may prove to be helpful in that regard.
